Our 2023 Stevne in Starbuck was a success. We had fun. We laughed; thank you David Engen! I have been told 77 people attended. The food was delicious. The speakers were enlightening. When I first started planning the 2023 Stevne, I was impressed by how helpful and friendly the people of Starbuck and Glenwood are. A special thanks goes to Mona Gregerson. She worked tirelessly to make the 2023 Stevne a success. We are so blessed to have Mona on our board as a director. I want to thank our speakers, Theresa Nelson, Rich Anderson, Ann Grandy, Irene Starck, Judy Weiss, Miranda Moen Fadness, and David Engen. I also want to thank the staff and members of Fron Lutheran Church, Pastor Paul Johnson and Lois Brecht. Tom Standal, our rockstar Genealogist, was very busy helping people with their family trees and questions. We enjoyed visiting the Pope County Museum and the Starbuck Depot Museum. The FOOD was so good! I want to thank the Starbuck Study Club GFWC, Rolling Forks Vineyards, Stacy Gerdes at Lakes Catering, and Dorothy and her staff at the Nutcracker Café. Thursday evening we met at Rolling Forks Vineyards. I had the best pizza I have ever had in Minnesota. Friday’s lunch was made by the members of the Starbuck Study Club. Hotdish and salads, Lutheran Church Basement food at its best. BTW it was authentic; we were in a Norwegian American Lutheran Church basement! There were some incredible Jello salads. I loved the Jello salad with the jalapeno peppers in it. Someone had a good idea! Ja, I love spicy food. Friday evening our dinner was made by Stacy Gerdes of Lakes Catering. It was delicious. Stacy made us Rømmegrøt! Saturday lunch was Norwegian meatballs from the Nutcracker Café. If you are ever in Starbuck, visit the Nutcracker Café. For all three meals at the church we had lefse from Jacob’s Lefse in Osakis. We are trying to provide Norwegian-American food at Stevne, as many of you requested. I think in 2022 and 2023 we were successful. The 2023 Stevne was the best Stevne I have attended.
The Valdres Samband annual Stevne for 2023 will be held in Starbuck, MN on June 22, 23 and 24th. This event is open to members and non-members. You can attend one, two or all three days of this event. As always the costs are very reasonable and children are free. We will soon provide a registration form on this website. If we have your email address, you will also receive notification when the registration form and online payment is available.
THURSDAY June 22, 2023
Thursday activities include a tour of the Starbuck Depot and School Museum as well as the Lefse Hall of Fame. Lunch will be served before we travel to nearby Glenwood, Minnesota. In Glenwood we will tour the Pope Museum and there will be time for those who want to research Pope County. The tour will be followed by a trip to the Rolling Forks Vineyard.

Registration and the Genealogy Room both open at 9am. We have several presentations scheduled and will be providing lunch, a rosmal class, a banquet meal followed by entertainment.
SATURDAY June 24, 2023, Fron Lutheran Church, Starbuck MN
Genealogy room is open on Saturday. Presentations include Knitting/Spinning, Valdres Architecture. Lunch provided.
