Valdres Samband Tour to Valdres Norway 2024

Your board of directors is planning a group trip to Valdres in July 2024. Dates are July 16 – 26, 2024. There is a detailed itinerary in the latest issue of Budstikken. The tour will begin in Oslo on July 16th and visit Norwegian Immigrant Museum, Loften, Lillehammer, Fagernes, Sogefjord. There will be opportunities to visit heritage farms in small groups and to see several stave churches. The main part of the tour ends on July 23rd. An optional post tour will visit Geilo, Hardangervidda, Kongsberg, ending in Oslo for July 26th departures. Estimated costs for main tour are between $2195 to $2475 (airfare excluded) for double occupancy (depending on number of participants). Post tour will be about $1419 per person.

MAIN TOUR

Tuesday, July 16: Arrive Oslo – Hamar, Norway

Participants arrive independently at Oslo’s Gardermoen airport in Norway. The group coach will depart at the des-
ignated time in the afternoon. Stop for a visit to the museum Eidsvoll 1814 (the place where the Norwegian Con-
stitution was drawn up and signed in 1814) on the way up to Hamar. The group will gather for a Welcome Dinner at the hotel. Overnight: Scandic Hotel Hamar (or similar).

Wednesday, July 17: Norwegian Emigrant Museum – Løten visits

Breakfast at hotel. Head to the town of Ottestad to visit the Norwegian Emigrant Museum. The bicentennial of
Norwegian Emigration to North America will be in 2025, and the museum already has topics on this historic event.
In the afternoon, visit Løiten Lys (candles) and Bokloftet (books) in Løten. Overnight: Scandic Hotel Hamar.

Thursday, July 18: Lillehammer & Maihaugen – Fagernes

Breakfast at hotel. Today the group will head to Lillehammer and visit Maihaugen, one of the largest and oldest
open-air museums in Europe. Learn about Norwegian history and culture from the 1200s and up to recent times during a guided tour. Continue to Fagernes, the main town in the Valdres region. Group dinner at a hotel. Overnight: Scandic Hotel Valdres, Fagernes.

Friday, July 19: Day tour to Sognefjord region

Breakfast at hotel. Day tour to towns and sights near the Sognefjord, such as Lærdalsøyri, Borgund stave church
(guided tour), and Stegastein viewpoint. Overnight: Scandic Hotel Valdres, Fagernes.

Sat-Sun, July 20-21: Fagernes & Valdres region

Breakfast at hotel. Three-day Fagernes/Valdres program (order of visits may vary):
• Guided visit to the Valdres Folk Museum in Fagernes
• Valdres Sølvsmie & Keramikkverksted AS
• Slidredomen and Einangssteinen, Lomen or Høre stave church
• Visit heritage farms; farm and støl visit in Vestre Slidre (in smaller groups)
Overnight: Scandic Hotel Valdres, Fagernes

Monday, July 22: Fagernes & Valdres Region

Breakfast at hotel. Three-day Fagernes/Valdres program continues (order of visits may vary):
• Guided visit to the Valdres Folk Museum in Fagernes
• Valdres Sølvsmie & Keramikkverksted AS
• Slidredomen and Einangssteinen, Lomen or Høre stave church
• Visit heritage farms; farm and støl visit in Vestre Slidre (in smaller groups)

Group dinner this evening. Overnight: Scandic Hotel Valdres, Fagernes.

Tuesday, July 23: Depart Fagernes
Breakfast at hotel and check-out. End of Main Tour. For those not on the post tour, transfer with group coach to Gol
rail station, for train transfer to Oslo / Oslo Airport.

POST TOUR:
Tuesday, July 23: Fagernes – Geilo
We leave Fagernes by coach and will drive to Geilo. Option to see Hallingdal, and we will make short stops. We will drive through Tisleidalen, Gol, Torpo and Ål. Overnight: Geilo hotel.

Wednesday, July 24: Hardangervidda area – Kongsberg

Breakfast at hotel. Driving parts of Hardangervidda today: Dagali and Uvdal Stave church, Veggli, Rollag stave church
to Kongsberg. Group dinner. Overnight: Kongsberg area hotel.

Thursday, July 25: Kongsberg silver mines – glass works – Oslo

Breakfast at hotel. Visit to the Silver Mines at Kongsberg – the group will ride a small trolley train into the mountain
to tour this historic mine. There will be another visit, such as Nøstetangen glass museum, en route to Norway capital
city of Oslo. Overnight: Oslo hotel.

Friday, July 26: Oslo departure

Breakfast at hotel. Transfer independently to Oslo Gardermoen airport for individual flight check-in – or extend your
time in Scandinavia.
